Chapter Fourteen

Raina woke the next morning to a quiet house. Stretching, it didn’t take long to realize she wasn’t alone in bed. In fact, as she opened her eyes, to find herself surrounded by arms and legs, and lots of them. Ben slept on his stomach to her right, while Adam was curled around her back, his hand holding one of her breasts, but it was her legs that felt off. Looking down, she smiled, seeing Curtis as his head was laying on her pelvis, his body curled around her legs almost as if he were protecting his favorite part of her. She wanted to laugh, because knowing Curtis as well as she did, she knew that was exactly what he was doing. Protecting his favorite part of her.

She wished she could just lay in bed with them and wait till they naturally woke, but her bladder was pressing for release and if she didn’t get up soon, she would embarrass herself. So, carefully as she could, she managed to untangle herself from her men and head to the bathroom. After using the facilities, she jumped into the shower for a quick wash, then got dressed and planned on starting her day.

She tried not to think of yesterday and the uneasy feeling she had. Her men said that they had the ranch on lock down and she believed them. She knew they would protect her and the kids, but something was still nagging her as she went about her business, cleaning up and getting breakfast started.

Something felt off. Deep down, she knew she was still being watched. It was more of a gut feeling than anything else, but in her whole life, her gut was always right. It was engrained into her, to react when something didn’t feel right. Her father taught her that. It was the one thing she relied on, trusted.

She was loading the dishwasher when the back door opened. Looking up she smiled when Nicholas walked in.

Her brother was always a quiet soul, hardly ever gave her any trouble and was the first besides Michaela to help. Smart and thoughtful, Nicholas was her right arm, her conscience and she loved him dearly.

“Hey you.”

“Sis.”

“What are you up to today?”

“Nothing much. Peter said I could have the day off, but Brice and I were working on the old Mustang and I really wanted to get started on that engine today.” Nicholas was her mechanic, electrician, and all-around Mr. Fix-It. If it was broke, Nicholas could fix it. Currently he was working at Cove Auto Body and loving every minute of it. She rarely saw him because he tended to get lost in his work, but on the rare occasions he did show up, Raina made sure that he was still loved and wanted dearly.

“So, you’re headed to the shop, then?”

“No. Jared asked me to check on Michaela, and she’s fine just like I said she would be. Molly is giving her a run for her money. That little girl is smart.
